Translation
Better than the entire world, is our Hindustan;
we are its nightingales of mirth, and it is our garden abode
Though in foreign lands we may reside, with our homeland our hearts abide,
Regard us also to be there, where exist our hearts
That mountain most high, neighbor to the skies;
it is our sentinel; it is our protector
In the lap of whose, play thousands of rivers;
gardens they sustain; the envy-of-the-heavens of ours
O waters of the Ganga mighty, do you recall the day
when on your banks, did land the caravan of ours
Religion does not teach us to harbour grudges between us
Indians we all are; India, our motherland
While Greece, Egypt , Rome have all been wiped out
till now yet remains, this civilization of ours {it has stood the test of time}
Something there is that keeps us,our entity from being eroded
For ages has been our enemy, the way of the world
Iqbal! Is there no soul that could
understand the pain in thy heart?
Mere pyaro, keep it up. Well done

Long live Hindustan, Long live Pakistan until you stay in Pakistan.
You cross the border with right intention we will treat you.
You come here to create problems, insult our mother land we will beat you.
No country is bad, it's as good as its countrymen. One who can not respect other's culture can never belong to any country.
Be proud of the good things your country possess, treasure it.
Learn and Cherish what other countries present to you.
Darwin says all the creatures are product of same cell. So no boundaries can prove the fact wrong.
We are all same and we all are one.
Vande Matharam.

Assalam Alikum Mohsin saab !
'Sare Jahan se Accha Hindustan Hamara' was indeed written by The Great Allama Iqbal, called ' Tarana-i-Hind', when he was invited by a Hindu student in Lahore, where Iqbal was a lecturer. This great song is in the hearts and minds of ALL INDIANS, on par with the other 2 great songs ' Jana Gana Mana' - Hindustan Quami-tarana, National Anthem of India, written by Nobel Laureate ' Shri Rabindranath Tagore' and the other National Song, ' Vande Mataram' written by Bankim Chandra Chatterje.
Some news for you. The first national anthem of Pakistan [ Tarana-e-Pakistan ] was written by Shri Jagannath Azad, a Lahori Hindu and the first few words read like " "Aey sarzameen-i-pak Zarrey terey hein aaj sitaron sey tabnak Roshan heh kehkashan sey kahin aaj teri khak."("Oh land of Pakistan, each particle of yours is being illuminated by stars. Even your dust has been brightened like a rainbow."') . This song was first song at Constituent assembly of Pakistan for 18 months, before it was replaced by another song written by Poet Hafiz Jallundari. [ Remember even Jallundari was from India - Jullandar is in Punjab State of India.
Also Rabindranath Tagore's song ' Amar Sonar Bangla' is currently the National Anthem of Bangladesh.
This is the ture spirit of Human Beings, no matter where we live. Not those of rabid communalists, who believe that this world and even the other world belongs only to themselves. It is tragic that this great land of mine got split in the name of religions, when all religions speak of peace.
My own family, you may wonder, my grandfather migrated from Peshawar in 1947 and we are Patans. I pray Allah that these countries could unite or at least have total peace and all citizens have equal rights, irrespective of our religions. At least India is far far superior in this respect !!!
With regards
Uzma Ahmed

This is one song, which fills up every proud Indian's heart with endless joy and elation. A song that is a tribute to the very essence of every true Indian, including the one who wrote it first.

Did Lata not sing all the stanzas? The following for example is skipped:
aye āb, raud, ganga, voh din hen yād tujhko
utarā tere kināre, jab kārvān hamārā
Ash Nallawalla | Jan 29 2008 - 09:44
Nalla-wallah bhai,
Only the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 6th stanzas make the "official" song used by the army etc.
Cheers!
